About

We are a centre for creativity and community on the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. We are here to make life better for everyone. We value the good things in life, like friendship, kindness, imagination and laughter. Everything we do is guided by our commitment to strengthening creativity and community in Vauxhall and by our love of two principles, Pleasure and Industry.

Established 1985, VGCC has existed at the heart of Vauxhall for 30 years. In 2012 it moved from Vauxhall Walk to No. 5 Glasshouse Walk, facing onto the historic Pleasure Gardens.

VGCC embraces the history at its door. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, people came from all over the world and every walk of life to stroll in the gardens, eat together and enjoy the latest spectacle. We want every experience we offer to be as pleasurable.

Towards the end of the 19th century the railway pushed through the gardens, and factories and workers’ accommodation sprung up. Our building is next to the railway on the site of an old glass works. We want to celebrate the best of the industrial era by encouraging innovation, supporting the development of skills and creating jobs.

This is an exciting time in Vauxhall – our centre sits in Zone One, at one end of the ambitious Nine Elms regeneration, which stretches from Battersea Power Station to Lambeth Palace along the Thames. As Embassies are built and sky-high towers of glass and steel go up, our Victorian building dedicated to public use becomes increasingly precious.

We are here to offer all who live and work in Vauxhall – and further afield – a safe, welcoming and inspiring space to come and be in the company of others and to take part in activities at low cost or for free.

We welcome you and invite you to check out the activities we offer, from health and fitness, to learning opportunities for children and adults, and a club for the over 60s – current activities are listed on the calendar to the left of this page.

We also hire out space – so if you’re looking for a place to hold a party or a venue for a meeting, please see our room hire page. Competitive discounts are available for members.

If you have a suggestion or comment about the centre, or would like us to help you promote your own creative and communal activities, give us a call on 0207 793 1110 or drop us an email.
